• Evaluate technologies which are not typically used in the mining industry.
• Perform economic evaluation studies of various haulage alternatives.
• Work with various equipment manufacturers to develop a trolley system for the new generation of large AC drive electric haul trucks.

Elko, Nevada - July 1993 to December 1996

• Conducted pre-feasibility and feasibility economic evaluations of trolley assist. 
• Responsible for the design and commissioning of a $25.6 million trolley-assisted haulage system at the Goldstrike mine.
• Completed the project successfully on schedule and within budget. 
• Compared actual trolley-related costs and savings with anticipated values.

Elko, Nevada - August 1989 to June 1993

• Established a mechanical engineering laboratory to support maintenance decisions. Technologies in the lab include an on-site tribology (oil analysis) lab, non-destructive testing, infrared thermography and vibration analysis.
• Conducted various studies and tests which resulted in improved efficiency and performance of hydraulic shovels and haul truck diesel engines.
• Pioneered a program to monitor the vital signs of mobile mining equipment, using radio telemetry.

Phalaborwa, South Africa - July 1984 to June 1989

• Established a Condition Monitoring/Reliability-Centered Maintenance (RCM) group to perform vibration analysis and non-destructive testing (NDT).
• Improved the cost-effectiveness of Palabora's trolley assisted haul trucks.
• Developed strategies for extending the service life of the GE electric wheelmotors.
• Conducted economic studies including: high efficiency diesel engines vs. de-rated existing engines, weight-reduced trucks vs. standard trucks, buying new trucks vs. rebuilding old trucks.
• Developed a program to locally-source substitutes for imported components.

Erie, Pennsylvania - October 1982 to May 1984

• Analyze field failures of Off-Highway and Drilling equipment.
• Perform audits of repair facilities to assure conformance with GE standards.
• Supervise the repair of Off-Highway products.
• Conduct special maintenance schools for customers.
• Establish cost tracking programs at the mine sites.

• Assessed armature life problems as a function of application, quality and maintenance.
• Conducted monthly meeting with Palabora and local GE personnel.
• Responsible for installation and testing of the first prototype GE788 wheelmotor.
• Monitored trolley-assist performance. 

Erie, Pennsylvania - June 1976 to October 1981

• Performed mechanical design (including gears and seals) on drive systems for the Locomotive, Transit, Off-Highway and Development Engineering groups.
• Design and application of blowers and auxiliary equipment for locomotives and drill rig equipment, and the design and application of rapid transit gear drives.
• Compared GE's Off-Highway drive systems with the competition, using probability, statistics and calculated stress levels to predict the relative lives and life-cycle costs.
• Designed the gears and bearing arrangement on the GE787 wheelmotor.
• Responsible for design of the bearings, oil pumps and sealing of the Flywheel Energy Storage System (FESS), which utilized a flywheel-driven motor-generator to drive a passenger bus.
