- Responsible for the design and commissioning of a $25.6
million trolley-assisted haulage system at the Goldstrike
mine.
- Completed the project successfully on schedule and within

- Compared actual trolley-related costs and savings with
anticipated values.

improved efficiency and performance of hydraulic shovels and haul
truck diesel engines.
- Pioneered a program to monitor the vital signs of mobile
mining equipment, using radio telemetry.

- Established a Condition Monitoring/Reliability-Centered
Maintenance (RCM) group to perform vibration analysis and
non-destructive testing (NDT).
- Improved the cost-effectiveness of Palabora's trolley
assisted haul trucks.
- Developed strategies for extending the service life of the
GE electric wheelmotors.
- Conducted economic studies including: high efficiency
diesel engines vs. de-rated existing engines, weight-reduced
trucks vs. standard trucks, buying new trucks vs. rebuilding old
trucks.
- Developed a program to locally-source substitutes for
imported components.

- Compared GE's Off-Highway drive systems with the
competition, using probability, statistics and calculated stress
levels to predict the relative lives and life-cycle
costs.
- Designed the gears and bearing arrangement on the GE787
wheelmotor.
- Responsible for design of the bearings, oil pumps and
sealing of the Flywheel Energy Storage System (FESS), which
utilized a flywheel-driven motor-generator to drive a passenger
bus.
